History in Kyiv

During the program, we had a lot of fun together, like singing and playing guitar, sigh-seeing Lviv, discovering differences between cultures. But the fun was just a topping and we looked at many problems together.

For example, big part of our discussions was about history, so on the 15th of August we started our morning by going to the National Museum of Ukrainian History and the Second World War. We walked from metro station holding a tasty coffee and talking about different topics. We had a nice panorama view of left side city on our way. At the museum, we had a possibility to talk to each other about our feelings and exchange our knowledge about history. After the museum we went down to the Lavra and took a bus to the city center where we learnt more about Maidan. Liena did a great job with providing us personal stories about her experience at Maidan. Vania told some story how military students were provided with wrong information and how watching Ukrainian media was forbidden. We also watched videos and learnt how people felt at that time outside of Maidan. I liked the way excursion was going because we had a nice opportunity not only to hear but also to see everything.

Later we took funicular to the Poshtova and had lunch at the Puzata Hata which had become the most popular place among us at those days. Hope everyone loved Ukrainian varenyki!

I was impressed how supportive German students were. Talking about that part of our modern history was hard for many of us, but they did a great job asking questions and showing their knowledge.

In the afternoon we went back to FreudHouse where we met Anna Adrashko, a young journalist who is reporting for Informator about the war in Eastern Ukraine. She gave a lecture and then we discussed the role of journalists in the war. Can people report neutral? How to speak about a war neutrally if you have a clear position because your country is involved?

Afterwards Elena and Fabian gave a workshop about propaganda in the war and principles of propaganda.

We discussed what is propaganda, influence and manipulation.

That was one of my favorite days😊
